Editorial – Ghostbusters Merchandise I’d Like To See Next Year

I would LOVE to see this GB III blu-ray/DVD idea coming to fruition. Sadly, I don’t think Sony’s going to do anything about it…

Although, for the sake of dreaming, they could bring in a bit more money and resurrect the lost levels of the River of Slime and the Temple of Gozer 😀

Yeah, admittedly, this is all wishful thinking, but I wanted to share my thoughts and put them out there.

If there’s a Q&A at the Ghostbusters Comic-Con panel this Friday (July 10th, 2PM-3PM, in Room 25ABC), feel free to propose any of my ideas to Sony. I’m not saying that that will get them to move forth with any of it, but if Sony never hears/reads the ideas at all, then they *definitely* will never happen. So, all good thoughts…

All of these are magnificent ideas. I’d love to see them all come true. I’d particularly like to see Ghostbusters: The video Game translated into a bluray release as Ghostbusters 3 the very most.

That’s a pretty ambitious and comprehensive array.

If I might add something to it?

Fisher-Price ImagiNext: Ghostbusters Universe figurines (or a separate, compatible line).

I see these guys in Kohl’s and other stores, and they’re very well-detailed considering they’re a bit less than your average “Star Wars” figurine.

Here’s how I’d break it down:

GHOSTBUSTERS I:

Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston (casual and uniform, with possible removable slime/marshmallow coverings)

Janine
Dana/Zuul!Dana
Louis/Clortho!Louis
Pecker
Slimer w/Squid Ghost
Terror Dogs + Gozer (with Rooftop Temple playset?)
Firehouse w/”II” sign (save us a reissue)
Ecto-1
10″ Stay-Puft

GHOSTBUSTERS II:

Same four as above (can reuse mold–WINSTON IS CLEAN-SHAVEN), with Slime-Blower accessories and “pink slime” coverings (color-change paint?)
–POSSIBLE VARIANT: Charcoal winter gear

Janine
Janosz + Vigo 2-pack (includes 2-sided “painting” backdrop with Vigo’s Big Fat Head on the other side)
Scoleri Bros. w/Cinema Ghost
Oscar with Pull Back-n-Go Carriage (I’m kidding…or am I?)
Ecto-1A

REAL GHOSTBUSTERS:

Four guys, Janine, and Slimer, appropriately stylized for the show
Bogeyman
H-2-Ghost (reuse one of the “alien” figures)
Peoplebusters (possible)
Anti-Ghostbusters (“Citizen Ghost”)
Sam Hain
…Anybody else you can think of, really.

SPECIAL PLAYSET: Containment Unit, with “Real” and “Extreme” swappable trap mechanisms

EXTREME:

Egon
Eduardo
Kylie
Roland
Garrett (FINALLY!)
Slimer
Janine

GHOSTBUSTERS 2016:

Gilbert
Tolan
Yates
Holtzmann (I’ll learn their first names; give me time to adjust)
New Ectomobile/Ghost-cycles
Chinese Restaurant HQ

Thanks a great idea, Nick. So much of the figures these days are made for adult collectors, but there’s nothing for the kids to play with. We need for the kids to get interested in Ghostbusters in order for the franchise to truly continue. – Paul

I really want to see this show aired again.
I was very disappointed with Sony last year when they chose to do practically nothing for the 30th anniversary of the franchise. At the very least I wanted to see them get all the cartoon series back on the air, starting from the beginning of the Real Ghostbusters (only the first half of the series before the bad decisions were made) and airing right through the Extreme Ghostbusters.
I think we would see a lot of success with Extreme Ghostbusters if they air it at a decent time this time round.
It had the best airing time in most of Europe, but Sony only took the USA ratings into consideration.
This would have introduced the series to a whole new generation of kids. It’s like they don’t remember the success of the merchandising all through the 80s and 90s!
