Site Update – Real Ghostbusters Bible & Scripts Added
That is some awesome stuff…my main two reactions:
1. WTF? They’re blaming the Junior Ghostbusters on Ivan Reitman?! That’s almost as disillusioning as when I found out Ramis was behind the Janine/Louis crap.
2. The Robo-Buster draft was fascinating; Egon’s wonderful jealous burn was more subdued than in the final version, but it seemed like Janine and Venkman were more in character than the aired version. An already interesting episode would have been better if Jansen and Menville hadn’t made Francis Moss dumb it down more.

Hi Fritz
1. Yeah, it’s kind of a bummer when you find out that the guys who were responsible for the good parts of the franchise were also responsible for the very BAD stuff too.
2. I don’t know if Jansen and Menville were responsible for the changes Francis Moss made to the script. I’m sure that there were lots of story changes that the suits “suggested” be made as well (see the notes in the Slimer “Class Clown” outline). Plus, that IS a very rough first draft, so I’m sure Mr. Moss made a lot of changes himself. Reading it, then reading the later June 24th draft, gives a great insight in the changes a script goes through.
Something I found interesting was the name change of Paul’s Smart’s company. From “DynaTec” to “Grossjuck”. I have to wonder if it was done simply to reference executive producers Michael Gross and Joe Medjuck or if they found out that there was a real company named DynaTec and needed a replacement that they were sure wasn’t already in use.
When I first read the bible, I couldn’t help but imagine Jansen and Menville writing it while a couple of suits were standing behind them reading over their shoulders. You know, like they KNEW the suits would read it, so they tried to put a positive spin on changes that shouldn’t have been made in the first place (see: Janine).
